Why acquiring knowledge in Perinatal Mental Health matters when serving my community!

  1. Describe 3 potential risk factors impacting the individual's mental health in their perinatal journey that may benefit from further intervention.
  2. Express 2 ways to implement cultural sensitive practices to empower clients in advocating for their needs and in reclaiming their ancestral traditions.
  3. Recommend 3 resources for promoting optimal perinatal mental health and wellness.

 

Presenter:

Karla Cardoza, LMFT, PMH-C

Karla Cardoza was born and raised in Mexico City. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a small private practice in Los Angeles, California, is the Spanish language operations manager and faculty for Postpartum Support International (PSI). She incorporates a holistic approach into her work with women, holds a certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) and is a registered yoga teacher. Karla's specialties in her work include an array of various training modalities including: postpartum care using the Mexican Traditional Medicine, trauma-informed yoga, pre and postnatal yoga, breathing, body movement, and meditation.

She has a Master’s degree from Pacific Oaks College with an emphasis in Latinx Family, Trauma Studies and Professional Clinical Counselor. In addition, Karla is faculty with Maternal Mental Health NOW in Los Angeles and has participated in interviews for Mom & Mind, Latinx Therapy, Telemundo, Univisión and Unión Radio Maracay.
