Closed Event | Ponce, Puerto Rico
As part of this two-hour listening session, individuals who provide health and social services, representatives from community-based organizations, and individuals with lived experience in Puerto Rico are invited to share their insights, experiences, and efforts in working from syndemic approaches.
A syndemic occurs when two or more diseases, such as HIV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis, or substance use/mental health challenges, cluster and interact due to social and structural determinants of health, resulting in an increased disease burden. We aim to foster a timely and vital dialogue among professionals to garner your unique and important perspectives and contributions. The primary focus is a discussion on sharing successes, noting challenges, and identifying essential collaborations for syndemic approaches. This collaborative effort is crucial for addressing and resolving the clustering of social and health problems at the population level.
This event is hosted and sponsored by the Northeast and Caribbean Addiction Technology Transfer Center, the Peer Recovery Center of Excellence, and the Hispanic and Latino Behavioral Health Center of Excellence in collaboration with The Collaborative Center to Advance Health Services, located at the University of Missouri Kansas City.
